South Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation
The Board of Directors of South Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (SKRECC) is seeking an experienced utility leader for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). SKRECC has retained NRECA’s Executive Search Group to facilitate the search process.
SKRECC is a not-for-profit rural electric cooperative that engages in the business of distributing retail electric power to 49,046 owner-members located in the counties of Pulaski, Wayne, McCreary, Cumberland, Lincoln, Rockcastle, Casey, Russell, Laurel, Clinton and Adair, all in Kentucky, and Pickett and Scott counties in Tennessee. As of March 31, 2019, SKRECC had 68,446 active services for members. It has 6,900 miles of distribution lines in its service territory and owns additional facilities necessary to support this distribution system. SKRECC has 137 employees, 4 district offices and an annual budget exceeding $130 million.
SKRECC is the largest member (by member count) of East Kentucky Power Cooperative, Inc. a generation and transmission cooperative with 16 members throughout Kentucky serving approximately 540,000 meters and more than one million Kentuckians.
Successful CEO candidates are required to have a minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience and demonstrated expertise in the areas of leadership, utility operations and interpersonal skills. Candidates should also have a proven track record for successfully holding management positions of increasing responsibility throughout his or her career, without limitation. Candidates must have broad electric utility management experience and knowledge that includes such areas as board relations, operations and safety, finance, strategic planning, team building, and member communications. The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, proven leadership ability, with the understanding and appreciation of the cooperative business model.
The minimum educational requirement is a Bachelor’s Degree (business, finance, engineering or a related field).
Somerset, Kentucky is situated on the northeastern edge of Lake Cumberland, the state’s largest lake in terms of volume. The town is 76 miles south of Lexington, Kentucky; 129 northwest of Knoxville, Tennessee; and 128 miles southeast of Louisville, Kentucky. Somerset has a population of 11,196 covering a land area of 8 square miles.
