Sumner-Cowley has retained NRECA’s Executive Search Group to facilitate the search process. Sumner-Cowley Electric is a member-owned, member-focused electric distribution cooperative that strives to exceed its members' expectations by providing safe, reliable, cost-effective electric power, superior customer service and innovative energy solutions. Operating as a democratic, non-profit organization, the cooperative proudly serves 4,377 members with 1,975 miles of line in the rural communities of Sumner, Cowley, Harper, Sedgwick and Kingman counties. Sumner-Cowley Electric has 12 full time employees with its infrastructure needs being uniquely served by a long-standing contracting relationship. Successful CEO candidates will have a strong executive presence and feel equally at home in the board room and the State House. A 4-year degree in a relevant field of study (accounting & finance, business or engineering) is preferred while an advanced degree is a plus. Given Sumner-Cowley’s commitment to cooperative leadership, NRECA Management Internship Program (MIP) graduates are desired or at the very least, successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to attend MIP, once on board. A minimum of 5 years of relevant and successful experience at the senior staff level at an electric utility that demonstrates a balanced background in accounting & finance, business and engineering is required. The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity, innovative, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, proven leadership ability and is results driven. Strong understanding of financial, safety and power supply issues and concerns as it relates to electric distribution cooperatives is critical. Demonstrated interest and involvement in local, state, regional and national community groups is expected. Wellington, Kansas has all the charm and safety of a small town but is only a short 20 minute drive south of Wichita. Conveniently located near three major highways, the Kansas Turnpike (I-35), US-81 and US-160, the town has nearly 8,000 residents representing both agriculture and manufacturing in its community.
